When the yen for comfort food strikes, many locals head to Cider Creek Bakery & Deli in Paso Robles. From breakfast sandwiches, burritos, and quiche to create-your-own sandwiches and soups for lunch, there’s something on the menu to please most everyone.

Guests receive a warm welcome at the family-style business before navigating a display case of muffins, cookies, pastries, and the bakery’s famous pies.

Last July, Cider Creek’s founding owners, Ken and Susie Jevec, sold their 23-year-old business to Brad and Becky Daugherty and their business partner Popie Kaiser. The apple cider tasting room and country boutique on Highway 46 West soon included fresh-baked pies and other treats before relocating just off Niblick and South River Road in Paso Robles.

Brad and Becky took a circuitous route to the restaurant business. For 22 years, Brad worked in construction as an electrician. He later partnered with wife Becky at GLS Bookkeeping in Templeton where she is president and CEO.

Reports from his clientele are all positive, Brad said, and customers enjoy interacting with Popie, who manages the restaurant, and other familiar faces.

Cider Creek uses produce from local vendors, including The Berry Man, and baking ingredients from family-owned Rob Ross Foods.

“Our food is fresh,” Brad said. “Even our salad dressings are made from scratch, and our customers notice. The quality of our roast beef makes our French Dip sandwich one of their favorites.”

Cider Creek’s delicious pies can be ordered in advance. Choose from five varieties of apple pie (classic apple, apple crisp, Dutch apple, caramel apple, and no-sugar apple), plus boysenberry, cherry, peach, apricot, peach-blueberry, and strawberry-rhubarb pies. Just as irresistible are Cider Creek’s cinnamon rolls, fresh and iced with cream cheese frosting.

Brad’s two sons, Wade, 23, and Logan, 19, take an active part in the family business and their father couldn’t be prouder.
“Wade works at the restaurant full-time and Logan works part-time and attends Cuesta College. Wade wants to become a partner and he can’t wait to run the place!” Brad said. Among the sandwiches new to the menu are a grilled Turkey Ortega Melt and a unique Spanish Dip, which was Logan’s idea.

“We’re always doing research to improve and maintain consistency of our product,” Brad said. “No matter how delicious our food tastes, we aim to do better for our customers.”

Cider Creek Bakery & Deli, at 205 Oak Hill Road in Paso Robles, is open on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on weekends from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
